This is the 4th year running the Fishing Competition, when it started it was to raise money towards the purchase 6 O'Pen bic boats, this is where the name open fishing competition came from. Over the years the club has continued to run this competiton for general fundraising needs the club has, to keep our membership fees low, in doing so we have kept it as an open competition where anyone and everyone is welcome to enter, you dont even need a boat, fishing from shore is also allowed.

The next Fishing Competition is held on Waitangi Weekend, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th February 2022.

Prize giving will be at approx. 5pm on Sunday. Everyone is welcome.

Terms & Conditions:

  • FISHING IS RESTRICTED BETWEEN ABEL HEAD & FAREWELL SPIT, INSIDE THE BAY

 

  

  • Entry fees must be paid before due date (Thursday 4th Feb at 4pm), all crew must be registered to be on board.
  • Multiple entries of the same fish are NOT permitted by either the same or multiple persons.
  • Commercial boats must have proof of deregistration.
  • All entrants, boat owners and spectators participate at their own risk. The organisers, promoters, sponsors or any other party connected with the event accept absolutely no responsibility in any respect for personal injury, loss or damage to property, regardless of the cause.
  • All prize-winning anglers must attend prizegiving to receive their prize. Any prize-winning anglers not in attendance will forfeit their prize.
  • Weigh in can be done Saturday, and anytime Sunday Afternoon, final cut off is at 4pm Sunday. You must be lined up by 4pm to weigh in or you miss out.
  • Prizegiving starts approx. 5.00pm on Sunday 7th February. All kids guaranteed a prize.
  • Each boat must carry at least the minimum safety equipment and it is essential that all boats carry either VHF radio or cell phone. Life Jackets must be worn.
  • The competition is held in the spirit of amateur fishing and fair competition. If, in the opinion of the organising committee, competitors have breached the spirit of the competition then the committee reserves the right to exclude the competitor(s). The committee’s decision will be final.
  • Species Categories: Blue Cod, Gurnard, Terakihi, Kahawai, Kingfish, Snapper, Crayfish, Other
  • All fish are to be gilled & gutted before weighing in, a gutting station will be set up by boat wash if required.
  • Catch limit of 2 fish per species per person per day only
  • The use of longlnes/kontiki's is being disccued by the committee, these rules will be updated when a decision is made.
  • Children must carry there catch to the weigh in table
